Start with the castle at Molyvos, then follow the coast east to the hot springs at Eftalou and the tiny harbour of Skala Sykaminias, where the road narrows to a ribbon above the sea. Half a day, mostly sealed road, and one of the best sunset drives on the island. Park below the Molyvos old town — the cobbled lanes are pedestrian.
The western half of Lesvos looks like another country: bare volcanic hills, hawks overhead and almost no traffic. Allow a full day. Fill up in Kalloni or Antissa, because fuel stations thin out past Vatoussa. The UNESCO Geopark museum in Sigri is worth the entrance fee even if you skip the outdoor trails.
Agiasos is a mountain village of stone lanes and workshops on the slopes of Mount Olympus. Continue south to Plomari for ouzo distilleries and the beach at Agios Isidoros. The road is winding but well-surfaced; take it slowly and watch for goats on blind corners.
Drive on the right. Speed limits are 50 km/h in towns and 90 km/h on open roads. Petrol stations often close on Sunday afternoons outside the main towns, so top up early. Parking is free almost everywhere except central Mytilene, where blue lines mean paid parking. Mobile coverage is good on the coast and patchy in the western hills — download offline maps before heading to Sigri.
